North Carolina Mammals

Mammals that can be found in this area of North Carolina 
consist of:
Whitetail Deer, Red Fox, Eastern Cottontail Rabbit, Black Bear, Raccoon, Beaver, Bobcat, Grey Squirrel, Chipmunk, Coyote, and Woodchuck just to name a few.

For the amateur birdwatcher, you'll find an abundance of different species in this region of North Carolina including: 

Eastern Phoebe, Woodthrush, Nuthatch, Grouse, Wild Turkey and many more!

Nothing sounds quite as beautiful as the sweet serenade of mountain songbirds, some of the birds you can look forward to hearing are:

Eastern Bluebird, Goldfinch, Carolina Chickadee, Cardinal, Woodpecker, Catbird and the Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

North Carolina is home to around 28 species of Birds of Prey including:

the Barn Owl, Screech Owl, Barred Owl, Great Horned Own, Red-Tailed Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk and even the occasional Bald Eagle!

For the backyard herpetologist, you'll find plenty of reptiles to capture your attention, including:

copperheads, eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, corn snakes, green snakes, black snakes,
box 
turtles, snapping turtles, newts, salamanders and skinks.

Common species of trees that are found in the North Carolina Mountains are Red Oak, White Oak, Fraser Fir, Dogwood, Sourwood, and Red Maple among many others!

North Carolina has an abundance of beautiful local flora that includes:

Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, Ginseng, Foam Flower, Lady Slippers, Fire Pink, Mayapples, Irises, and Lilys.
